Roque Santa Cruz and Nelson Haedo Valdez replied for Paraguay, who beat Brazil 2-0 three days earlier but struggled with the high altitude at 3,600 metres above sea level and a terrible pitch.

Bolivia have four points from six games in the 10-team group, one more than table-propping Peru, while Paraguay have 13.

Bolivia went ahead in the 23rd minute when Botero latched onto a long pass forward and beat the offside trap.

Although his first touch was poor and took him backwards, he then managed to chip the ball over Bobadilla.
Garcia added the second two minutes later with a 30-metre shot which bounced on a bump in the pitch in front of Bobadilla.
Santa Cruz headed one back for Paraguay in the 66th minute, but four minutes later Bobadilla failed to hold a harmless 40-metre shot from Ronald Gutierrez and Botero snapped up the rebound.

Martins scored Bolivia's fourth from a free kick in the 76th minute, and Valdez pulled another back for Paraguay seven minutes later.
