The Canada-St. Vincent and the Grenadines second round CONCACAF qualifying series for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ was fairly well settled even before kick-off on Friday night in Montreal.
Having amassed a 3-0 lead in the first leg in Kingstown last weekend, the Canadians - who have only qualified for one FIFA World Cup finals in their history - made easy work of the return fixture, winning 4-1 (7-1 on aggregate).
The outstanding Dwayne De Rosario of MLS side Houston Dynamo scored twice and Ali Gerba - who had two goals in the first leg - picked up another pair in the rout.
Marlon James managed to grab a consolation goal for the Caribbean islanders in the 76th minute, but it was all too-little-too-late for St. Vincent.Nine more second round second legs will take place through North, Central America and the Caribbean this weekend with the USA, Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico and Costa Rica all in action.
CONCACAF qualifying round 2 at the halfway mark:
Grenada 2-2 Costa Rica
Antigua and Barbuda 3-4 Cuba
Suriname 1-0 Guyana
Guatemala 6-0 St. Lucia
USA 8-0 Barbados
Haiti 0-0 Netherlands Antilles
Belize 0-2 Mexico
Panama 1-0 El Salvador
Trinidad and Tobago 1- 2 Bermuda
Honduras, Jamaica and Canada are through to the group stages already after aggregate wins over Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and St. Vincent and the Grenadines respectively.
