During his time at the helm, 'Felipão' guided Portugal to their first major final on home soil at UEFA EURO 2004™ and then to a semi-final appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup – their best performances on the world stage in 40 years. "The times we have spent together and the dedication of the players make me proud to have worked with this group," said the 59-year-old, who will take up a new role as Chelsea FC manager from 1 July.

'In my heart'
If that is his new challenge, Scolari – who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002 – refused to rule out returning to Portugal one day in the future. "I've spent five and a half years in Portugal and had an excellent relationship with the national federation and the fans and the people. Maybe one day I will coach Portugal again, why not? It is not my immediate project but it is a country that will be in my heart and I will never forget them."
