No stopping Nigeria

Nigeria's 2-0 defeat of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday helped them clinch top spot in Group 4 and with it a place in the third and final phase of the African qualifying competition.

The day also saw Cameroon, Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal all win to consolidate their status as leaders in their respective groups. There were eight games on Saturday's card and is here to round up all the headline stories.

Game of the day
Nigeria 2-0 Equatorial Guinea
Goals: Yakubu Aiyegbeni 45, Ikechukwu Uche 84

After missing out on Germany 2006, the Super Eagles are doubly determined to secure a place at South Africa 2010. To prove the point, the men in green have been in irresistible form in June, winning all four of their Group 4 games this month to make sure of top spot already and all without conceding a single goal. Forced to put together a somewhat makeshift outfit against Equatorial Guinea at the National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu still had the satisfaction of seeing his side make short work of their opponents. The first team to check into the third phase of the qualifying competition, the Nigerians now have the luxury of being able to take it easy in their final two games in September and October.
